2 lines of tractors and some farm machinery awaiting the auction of Gordon Sutcliffe's property
Description
An account of the resource
The image shows a number of tractors which belonged to Gordon Sutcliffe lined up ready for auction. There are also 2 pieces of haymaking machinery on the left. According to Gordon's wife Dorothy, the white parts were an earlier acquisition which shook out and rolled up the hay, but the red part, called "centipede" was a later piece of equipment and was much better at doing the job. The tractor the to the right of the haymaking equipment is a Fordson, with registration HWW861 written on it (See omeka photo #64 for a better view and more information)
The image shows large haybales in the filed behind, and views over to Heptonstall and beyond to Wadsworth on the skyline. You can also see Dorothy Sutcliffe, Gordon's wife, along with Nick Wilding between the rows of tractors. Nick is interviewing Dorothy and making a recording for the SHED (Blackshawhead Local History Group) archives.
Auction. Following Gordon's death a public auction of his large collection including engineering, motor and farming artefacts was held on his small holding at Blackshaw Head overlooking Colden. It was held on 8th September 2007 and the auctioneers were Silverwoods of Clitheroe. People came from far and wide and many local people attended.

Fordson Tractor with registration HWW861 ready for auction of Gordon Sutcliffe's farming machinery
Description
An account of the resource
The image shows one of Gordon Sutcliffe's tractors, this one a Fordson, registration HWW861. (See omeka item id #70 for details about the other one) Gordon was still in the process of doing this one up when he passed away. Both Fordson tractors were bought at the auction by local resident Donald Stansfield who proceeded to restore them.
There is the front from another tractor, a David Brown, leaning against the front of it. To the left of the tractor is a "centipede" which shook out the cut hay and rolled it up. There are various other pieces of machinery and engine parts. You can just see Colden School in the background to the right of the tractor's steering wheel, and views over Colden Valley.
