The image shows an enhanced copy of a document titled "Epitaph to a Third Engineer" epitaph sharpened .jpg Gordon's wife Dorothy found this in a wallet full of cards and documents relating to firms that Gordon had dealt with in the course of his working life. Gordon was a qualified Engineer. He served his apprenticeship at Pickles Foundry, Mytholm Works, Hebden Bridge and went on to work for a variety of firms, mainly to do with the maintenance of vehicles and machinery. He also worked for Robert Thomas, Mytholmroyd, Plumbers and Heating Engineers. As well as in a work capacity, Gordon was always tinkering with engines in his free time, especially tractors, motorbikes - in fact anything that moved!
Gordon’s Interests Gordon was a keen motorcyclist and owned a number of motorcycles from classic British manufacturers for example Matchless and Norton. He enjoyed maintaining these bikes and racing with them

Gordon was enthusiastic about all types of machines and spent many happy hours at his smallholding with his vast collection of machines, vehicles and spare parts.


Gordon’s Adult Life On leaving school Gordon went to work at John Pickles Engineers Mytholm Works as an apprentice fitter from 1942 to 46 He returned to complete his apprenticeship after his National Service. He had varied working life in and around the Calder Valley and Burnley.
He married Dorothy Mills on 22nd March 1952 and the couple went to live at High St Jack Bridge, later moving to “Four Winds” Blackshaw Head in 1969 where he lived for the rest of his life.
