Description
The photo shows Gordon Sutcliffe doing a headstand on Durness Beach in the far North of Scotland, where he was on a camping holiday with his wife Dorothy and her sister Pamela Diana Mills who was 10 years younger than Dorothy. Dorothy said they used to do lots of exercises so the headstand on the beach was not unusual. The 3 adults, plus all the camping gear, travelled to Durness on their 600 Norton motorbike, complete with double adult sidecar, which Gordon had made himself to fit the motorbike. Dorothy and Gordon loved going to Scotland, usually in May when the weather seemed best.
Gordon's Adult Life: On leaving school Gordon went to work at John Pickles Engineers Mytholm Works as an apprentice fitter from 1942 to 46 He returned to complete his apprenticeship after his National Service. He had varied working life in and around the Calder Valley and Burnley. He married Dorothy Mills on 22nd March 1952 and the couple went to live at High St Jack Bridge, later moving to Four Winds Blackshaw Head in 1969 where he lived for the rest of his life.
