Description

The image shows Gordon Sutcliffe, aged 4 and a half months, sitting propped up on a wooden chair and dressed in a pretty white (christening?) dress, possibly in a photographer's studio in Hebden Bridge. Gordon's wife Dorothy thinks it might have been in Alice Longstaff's studio.

Gordon's parents waited seven and a half years for their first child to come along, so he was very cossetted by all the family, as was also the first grandchild, until his sister Jessie came along 4 years later.
Gordon’s Childhood and family Frederick Gordon Sutcliffe was born on 29 November 1928 at Horsehold Hebden Bridge. He was the oldest child of George Henry and Hilda. He had a sister Jessie May and and a younger brother Edwin. His father was a farmer . Jessie still lives in Heptonstall
The family lived in and around Hebden Bridge and Blackshaw throughout his childhood. He attended Mytholm Church of England School from 1933 moving to Central Street School in 1939.
