Description

The image shows one of Gordon Sutcliffe's tractors, this one a Fordson, registration HWW861. (See omeka item id #70 for details about the other one) Gordon was still in the process of doing this one up when he passed away. Both Fordson tractors were bought at the auction by local resident Donald Stansfield who proceeded to restore them.
There is the front from another tractor, a David Brown, leaning against the front of it. To the left of the tractor is a "centipede" which shook out the cut hay and rolled it up. There are various other pieces of machinery and engine parts. You can just see Colden School in the background to the right of the tractor's steering wheel, and views over Colden Valley.
Auction. Following Gordon's death a public auction of his large collection including engineering, motor and farming artefacts was held on his small holding at Blackshaw Head overlooking Colden. It was held on 8th September 2007 and the auctioneers were Silverwoods of Clitheroe. People came from far and wide and many local people attended.
